Infosys chief to develop IT

GUWAHATI: To the majority across India, Assam and the Seven Sisters represent a vast reservoir of wasted, troubled talent.

India Inc. has always shied away from it and the only ones who have dared to venture were a cluster of public sector oil majors which continue to stake life and assets despite ultra threats, tea companies which hardly have an option but to stay put and cellular players, who seem keen to hit the jackpot sooner or later.

That is likely to change. As N R Narayana Murthy, chairman of the board of Infosys Technologies Limited, has arrived on the scene.

On Saturday he met students of the Asom Engineering College, delivered a lecture aptly titled ‘Murthy’s Mantra’ and also chaired a brainstorming session on the possibility of developing IT in Guwahati — all within the space of a few hours over the weekend during his first visit to the region.

In an exclusive interview with ET, Mr Murthy said: “I was surprised that no college from this region has ever participated in the Infosys-initiated programme ‘Campus Connect’.

I invite the faculties of engineering colleges here to participate in this programme, which is held in Mysore regularly”. Campus Connect was initiated by Infosys to help increase India’s competitiveness in the knowledge economy.
