*** I did not read Mr. Saleh's reference to the Dutch soldiers'
characterization of the name as being presented as an approval of the
Dutch to elicit the question about relevancy.
It was presented as a documented and verifiable proof that the name
Assam was there EVEN before the Dutch came to South Asia and served
as Mirjumla's mercenaries in his expeditions against the Ahom kingdom
and Assam.
In an environment of a lack of such documented proof ( apparently
very few such have been discovered in the Ahom Buronjis found so
far), it stands out as a very important bit of recorded historical
information. Since the imposition of the term Asom was brought about,
ostensibly, in order to keep it in line with history ( voodoo history
as I see it) ,it is eminently relevant to the point of discussion.
Thanks to Dr. Saleh for informing us and strengthening the hand of
those who argue that the imposition of an absurd name like Asom, is
NOT historically justifiable, never mind the fact that it is also
entirely untenable phonetically.
