[Assam] Bad Roads

C'da,

I spent a a week or so in B'lore about 2-3 years ago. This is what I feel
(having seen both Guwahati and B'lore).

In B'lore most of the roads a just 'passable'. B'lore is still a small city
pretending to be an international one. Its airport is municipal at best. But
by and large, the roads are OK.

In Guwahati, most roads are unpassable - specially after a smart shower -
then they become canals.

Generally, most roads in India are just OK - excellent roads are very few or
non existant.

The issue you take up with "some" people thinking Assam roads as a typical
Kharkhowa problem is because Assam seems to be lacking behind most states
for the no. of drivable KMs of roads or the condition of the ones existing.
In larger cities like Guwahati, some roads and streets have not been
repaired for ages, and even when some slip-shod repairs are undertaken,
these last only till the next monsoon. And its not just roads - it is also
the drainage system. All this makes roads just rank bad.

Now, whom should (if at all) we blame for such bad road conditions. The
Bangaloreans seem to put the blame on 'outsiders' working in B'lore. What
about Assam? The GOA, GOI, the public (kharkhowa) , the unscrupulous
contractors and minister babus?

Take your pick.

BTW: I found roads in Hyderabad and Indore worse off than Guwahati - but the
highways in both AP and MP are far better than out HWY 37
