Hello Mukul:
techno-economic-social stuffs.. I think you are more better eqquiped than
I am to speak on this subject. Unless you wish to draw me into the issue
of over population.

Preaching about love is well within the religious sanctity of any
religion. Talking about copulating to populate in sheer numbers is
another. It is a politically aimed statement.

If India should have good quality educated children by minimising the
number of children in a family. The onus of that responsibility should not
rest on the shoulders of only Hindu's. The rate of populatuion should be
uniform through all religions. When this balance goes awry, it is bound to
create sense of insecurity and issues. Isn't that one of the real issues
in Assam today?

I have nothing against the Catholic church or any religion for that
matter. I have assamese muslim friends with whom we have hosted Bihu
dances in Hyderabad. They have just one or two children in their family.
They are part of our culture. The Church has contributed a lot to
educating the youth, making 90% or more literate people. Good to read the
bible in their own language and preach Christianity. Apart from that what
kind of growth and development can we expect?

I would appreciate some real quality growth among todays youth. Kids who
can grow up to shape our future.

>>This is an alarming news item for India. As such today the rate of
>>population is very high. Hindu percentage rate has fallen quite low while
>>other religious members who want to grow in sheer numbers and bring down
>>the per capita of the country and put fetters to the growth of the
>> country
>>should be dealt with very severly.
>>
>>Population is the root cause of poverty in India and simply prophesing
>>family planning does not help. Incentives like free Health and education
>>should be given to families with smaller number of dchildren. Smaller
>>meaning a max. of two children per family. Incentives to adoption for
>>childless couples should be given some thought.

>> KOCHI: The Catholic Church in Kerala has given out a call to the laity
>> to
>>go "back to basics" and have more babies if they are economically
>>well-off. This spiritual advice on a worldly matter comes in the form of
>>a pastoral letter, which would be read out in some 2,000 parishes in
>>Kerala on Sunday.
>>
>>In a signed letter, the Major Archbishop of the Syro Malabar Church,
>>Varkey Vithayathil, extols the sanctity of the institution of family and
>>decries the modern "market mentality" of childless pleasure-seeking,
>> which
>>is the root cause of many social evils like drug-abuse, prostitution and
>>violence.
>>
>>"In pursuit of their selfish joys, even those who can afford to bring up
>>children don't want them. Those who have the means should come forward to
>>have more children. The impact of market mentality on human relationship
>>is visible in all levels of society.
>>
>>It is anti-God and anti-Church." Pointing a finger at European countries,
>>he says: "At least in 25 European countries sufficient number of children
>>to maintain the present level of population are not born. Grey population
>>is increasing in these countries," he says.
>>
>>"In 2004, one person out of five was unable to work. By 2050, it is
>>estimated that the number of the aged will be shockingly one out of two.
>>The reason for this appalling situation is the 'culture of death'
>>(abortion) criticised by Pope John Paul II and the lack of love pointed
>>out by Pope Benedict XVI."
>>
>>The major archbishop admits that this trend is increasingly in Kerala,
>>where the Catholic population is not growing. "Synod of Bishops of the
>>Syro-Malabar Church requested the major archbishop to issue the pastoral
>>letter for all our eparchies concerning the sanctities of marriage," the
>>letter says.
>>
>>Asking the faithful to indulge in procreation, the pastoral appeal says,
>>"The Encyclical of Pope Benedict XVI based on the words from St John
>>epistle, 'God is Love', deals with the sanctity of sexuality. The Pope
>>likens sexuality as an exodus of man from the prison of his selfishness
>> to
>>a state of deliverance through self-giving."
