Some more info about the procedures . Initially I was stunned since the Canadian Embassy mentions that it takes upto one month to geta visitor visa but last night two of my roommates from India - Edison and Sudhir - explained that you can get it in one day -if you have all the documents ready.

I will have to appear for H-1B visa interview at Vancouver,Canada (On Pacific Caost) and will be back in US in Oct only -if granted the work visa stamp (hopefully). I'm told this going for work visa interview in Canada is useful only for those who have studied and/or worked in US -otherwise it is difficult for the visa officer to judge your qualifications and work experience.

Further, I have to convince my tutoring agency to let me join in October (I had offered to volunteer till then -as many do who are changing from student to work visa- since their classes would be starting in August ). I'm told the wait time to get a work visa interview date in India is over 4 months (currently available for Jaun 2007 only) at the US embassy there.

I am relying totally on credit cards -which I received only this week-to see me thrutill Oct end -when hopefully my first paycheck arrives on the new visa. LA friend Dr Kamal Kejriwal (who also co-signed my $35,000 student loan for Harvard study- -and has pledged to pay for college tuition for his sister's daughters when they grow up) is giving a 2 week loan to help show sufficient funds in my bank account-the rest thru cash advances from credit cards. I am planning to apply for a CitiBank loan online -results in 24 hours and even at www.prosper.com - which have lower interest rates.

  Ay suggestions.

    Hi,

Some would be glad to know that I have beenb given permission to work in USA after Oct1, 2006 but on the downside I have to leave the country by this month end (my change of status request was denied). So will apply for Canadian visitor visa now -a race against time -so that I get it in time .
