FYI: Got the visa to go to Canada yesterday thanks to the support of many AssamNet members, friends from school, college and univ, housemates etc. Might be staying with a Harvard classamte and her husband at Vancouver. My job also started yesterday. Just did my first quadratic equation using a Graphing Calculator. Have to teach the richest high school kids math and science - in a locale of palatial mansions incl that of CEO of www.bah.com

  Thanks a lot.

  Umesh

PS: my landlord has offered to store my luggae for free - no rent to be paid when I am gone to Canada.

Rousseu's Jungle in Paris exhibit National Art Gallery opp. Canadian embassy was great - showing Native Americans fighting gorillas in tropical jungles --- he had never left his home country France.

A new German student temporarily staying with a housemate of mine made a comment about her experience at the US consulate in Germany which made me feel that my worries are certainly less than hers. No one (at any embassy/consulate) can ask me the question they asked her. I am not a woman.

She has come to study Masters in International Relations in John Hopkins Univ's DC based Inst. and she was questioned if she was coming here to give birth to her baby so that the child can become a US citizen!!! She is big boned but NOT plump -certainly not that plump :-)

    Hi,

While gathering my documents to show at the Canadian embassy tomorrow I read a letter I had received from Ms Carole Prest - the regional Vice President (Mid Atlantic region) for the www.bellnational.org where I had worked. I had seen this letter after returning to DC on August 8th this month --and did appreciate her hand written note congratulating and thanking me fro working there -at the end of the letter. But the letter I did not read in detail since it was about inviting us to work the coming year and I was not sure I would get the work visa (even now in a flux).

Today I read that letter and was surprised to note that the school-site where I taught 7 eight yearolds (mainly Latinos) - total 41 students and 5 teachers -- HighLand Elementary , Wheaton , Maryland --- was the group whose students had shown greatest improvement --not only from among other sites supervised by her (NYC, DC New Jersey) - --but from among ALL the school sites managed by BELL all over USA - 40 sites in all.

It is likely that I contributed somewhat -as seems from Ms Prest's letter.

It is true that teaching the class was sometimes like controlling a wild eyed bronc in a rodeo -- but only those who show energy can be expected to turn out into racehorses.

  Is that true?

  Umesh

PS: Isn't it a heavenly green place with forests around and streams flowing at the back
