Constant link failure irks Dhemaji residents

DHEMAJI, Aug 25: Constant link failure in the computer system at the reservation counter at Dhemaji railway station has irked the people of Dhemaji. The said fault in the computer system has been persisting since July 16 this year and complaints regarding the same has also been lodged to the SDO (Telecom) and the JTO (Telecom), Dhemaji several times. But the officers concerned have not paid the necessary attention to the prayers for restoring the communication link. 
The conscious citizens of the area have made the SDO aware of the fact that due to the defunct computer system, the passengers have to go to Lakhimpur for the purpose. The people here have alleged that the present SDO and the JTO are not technically skilled. Allegations are also rife that the SDO seldom goes to his office and conducts all official activities from his residence. 
There is no coordination among the staff members and the line men fear to approach their seniors due to alleged misbehaviour from them on the slightest pretexts. Being the head quarter of the district, Dhemaji needs technically sound personnel at the top helm of the office, they said. 
The people are also not happy in the way bills for mobile phones are collected by the department, as the whole exercise is done through a single counter though there is provision for two counters. As a result, long queues are a common sight during bill-payment days. The SDO of the department seems to be least concerned about the harassment faced by the people. People have also alleged that the SDO favours those who ‘favour him.’ 
The people of Dhemaji have therefore appealed to the higher ups to make on official enquiry into these anomalies and punish those found guilty in the inquiry. The people of Dhemaji have also urged the authority concerned to restore the computer reservation service at Dhemaji Railway station. 
They have also requested that reservations made at Dhemaji railway station be effective from Dhemaji itself for the North-bound passengers. The reservation counter at Dhemaji railway station is in namesake only as reservations made at Dhemaji become effective from Lakhimpur.
