Do we create new states for the sake of such benefits or do we create states
because a particular area (with a large section of people) need a state
because the existing state governance is unable to do a good job?
This is a proper question. But I think I am not the right man to answer this
question for the simple reason that I am perhaps a little xenophobic.
Yes, we do create new states or some such thing for the benefits of a few or
in an area as you suggest. And this is POLITICS.
Just one example. India has about 800 Parliamentarians (Lok Sabha plus Rajya
Sabha) to govern the country with more than a billion people. UK has more
than thousand MPs (House of Commons plus House of Lords) for a population of
mere sixty million.
Decisions are always taken by a handful of people, whatever the size of the
constituency. Do you think, therefor, the above statistics justified? And the
huge expenses incurred?
There are better examples to support my contention but at the moment I
cannot recall them. There is one I can refer to but I am not doing that just at
the moment as I am personally involved.
However, none of them has yet produced an Ian Smith.
Let me not quarrel with you.
So far as the remainder of the queries, you do not seem to require any
categorical response. So I stop. Oh! No. Just the last one.
Why should he be accountable to anyone?
He would be still accountable to his party. But nobody would dare to stand
up to a Prime Minister like the late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
