 GUWAHATI, Dec 14 – Heartthrob of millions and local boy Zubeen Garg, who is making fast inroads to Bollywood stardom after his chartbuster song Ya Ali today said that he always tries to promote Asom and Northeast in the national and international milieu even while performing his professional duties.

“I have been through various ups and down during the course of my nine years of struggle in Mumbai but the people of Asom has always been there for me as the pillars of strength and inspiration”, said the popular singer during a felicitating programme organised by State unit of National Students Union Of India (NSUI) in the Bishnu Nirmala Bhawan here on Thursday.

When asked, Garg admitted that the success of Ya Ali has catapulted him to a different league and he wants to maintain the tempo in the similar fashion. He further added that he has already recorded songs for as many as 40 Bollywood flicks and there are few more in the wings.

“Having said that, I must say that my love for Asom and Asomiya music will never diminish. I have been maintaining a balance between the two industries for the last many years and I will continue to do so,” he reiterated.

On the Global Indian Award where the singer was adjudged the best playback singer of the year 2006, he said, “It was a nice feeling to receive the award in Kualalampur and remembering the people of Asom”.

On the music of his next Bollywood release titled I See you, Garg said that his expectations are very high from this movie.

“Already music buffs from across the country are sending good feedbacks for the film’s music which has just been out. I am sure people will like the music as well as the film which is slated for release very soon,” opined Garg.

Well-known music director Vishal-Shekhar has scored the music of the film. It may be mentioned here that Garg has already sung for a host of Bollywood films in the current year including Gangster and Pyar Ke Side Effects besides scoring music for Strings. 

Earlier, the singing sensation was accorded with a warm welcome in the in the Lok Priya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI) by the members of NSUI and All Assam Students’ Union.

Hundreds of Zubeen fans clad in colourful dress flocked the airport to have a look of their favourite star. A huge rally, comprising of more than 50 bikes and as many as cars was carried out from the LGBI airport to the Bishnu Nirmala Bhawan situated in city’s Uzanbazar area.

State president of NSUI, Bibhuti Barthakur while speaking on the occasion said, “Zubeen is a jewel of our State and we should be proud of him and his achievements”. 

He further stressed that NSUI has always been there extending their support and co-operation for the leading singer. “NSUI never misses out when it comes to encouraging local talents,” he added.

“We will very soon organize mega cultural show in Guwahati which will feature all the stars of Bollywood who have helped Zubeen during his struggle in Mumbai,” he disclosed before the gathering.

Veteran actress Chetana Das was also present in the felicitation ceremony besides many others eminent personalities from the regional industry.
