My visits to India this time took me to a small little
outpost called Kalasa about a 100Km from Mangalore in
Karnataka - my wife's ancestral place.
I was a little apprehensive about going that far out
and eating vegetarian/coconut laced food every day for
a week. When I landed however my misgivings gave away
immediately. The land is hilly / moutainous, the
Bhadra river actually flows with a current amongst
boulders and when you swim you can actually flow with
the current further downstream. The water is sweet.
Almost like many areas of Arunachal Pradesh I have
personally experienced.
Amongst the coffee plantations, there is a huge push
towards tea as well with many tea estates. The Bangur
group has an estate of 3600 acres out there.
And to top it all, my small little son saw an elephant
on the road for the first time.
It almost felt like being home.
