Ram-da,
As the saying goes - for one who has nothing let there be hope.
We should never lose hope.
After hearing my recent plight (and countermeasures) since yesterday -regarding visa and teaching jobs -my roommate already on H-1B said - "Necessity is the mother of invention." I am thrilled how my professors are so proactive in helpingstudents find jobs. I had never tried that route before .
Similarly, if there is violence in the state -two things can occur. One --like Bihar's Muzafferpur city whose shopkeepers and innercity folks are fed up of gangs and holdups that they themselves kill the looters on the spot -and noone stands witness. Also, like delhi where dozens die daily in road accidents -that noone really remembers about the 50 dead in bomb blast some months ago. There road rage and drunken driving is more dangerous (incl the killer Blue Line city buses) than any terror network.
People have not stopped living their lives - even in Iraq or Congo -or Delhi.
What matters is the attitude of the people. It is obvious the people of Assam are eager to "tune out" of these bomb scares - and get on to be successful in there lives --NETV is a shining example . WW2 soldiers turned to "Russian Rollet" to play the game of high risk -and not be terrified of violence.
Terror is only in the mind. God is the real killer and saver.
Regards.
Umesh

Again? I thought that talks were scheduled for the 22nd, and all those arrested are about to be released by the GOI and GOA (including the one arrested the other day).
Now, the army/crpf/police will probably come in, a few more people get killed or hurt, some ulfa arrested, the ulfa retaliates, and the PCG will again demand those apprehended be released. The GOI and GOA stalls, talks postponed, ulfa plants another bomb, kills a few more, etc etc etc.
This sordid tale keeps going on and on, like the energizer bunny. One could well suspect that there must be people who actually benefit (money, power whatever) by keeping this a burning issue.
Just absolutely disgusted!

______________
GUWAHATI: Five people including a 10-year-old boy were killed and 16 seriously injured when a powerful bomb planted by the ULFA exploded in a busy market here on Friday evening.
The bomb went off at 4.20 pm at the wholesale vegetable market at Machkowa when it was at its busiest, killing four and wounding both vegetable vendors and buyers, Senior Superintendent of Police Nitul Gogoi said.
One of those injured, which included a woman, later died at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital.
The bomb was suspected to have been planted in a vegetable basket as no crater was formed when it exploded with a thundering blast, Gogoi said.
The area was cordoned off and nearby shops and markets immediately shut down with panic spreading in the area.
Last night, the ULFA, mainly targeting the police, carried out simultaneous attacks in four places injuring 32 persons.
Twenty-two people were injured in a grenade attack at Mangaldoi town in Darrang district, while an IED exploded near Purani police station of Golakganj area in Dhubri district, injuring four people including a constable.
In the same district a hand grenade was hurled inside a shop injuring one person, while in Nagaon district five people including a policeman were injured when the militants targeted the Haibargaon police station.
