That Rig Veda says that cow is not to be killed simply means that cow was killed at one time.

I think people forget Indian history soon. What about partition of India fueled by riots in Kolkata etc in 1947? Muslims have always been minority in India and have ruled India for thousand years.

*****The fact that there are more incidents of Hindus attacking Muslims in India is because Hindus are a majority.

I agree. These communal riots take place because most involved are either egged on by some politician or religious bigot.

The fact that there are more incidents of Hindus attacking Muslims in India is because Hindus are a majority. In Pakistan, its the other way around. The Dalit incident is terrible and I do remember it, but I am sure that even such incidents are really not about "Beef eating" but to just cloak it as one. Behind the scenes, its probably someone trying to grab some land or simply wanting to "unite" the local community behind a common cause (lousy cause, nevertheless, a cause) for political reasons. In this case, they probably roused up some people by touting the beef horn.

I would suspect, most Hindus don't fall for such ploys, and that is the reason, minorities in India do have voice and support and when attrocities against them are committed, they are brought to light.

people are actually very sensitive about eating beef
and cow slaughter. you probably remember that most
communal riots in the past were started by someone
placing a dead pig in front of a mosque or a dead cow
in front of a temple. in an incident a couple years
ago 5 dalits were lynched by a mob because they
suspected they were skinning a live cow. they were
actually skinning a cow that was already dead for 24
hours. the dalits made their living by collecting
cowhides and selling them to tanneries.

eating beef and cow slaughter are big and potentially
explosive issues in india. talking about the past and
the record of beef-eating in hinduism is a means to
      difusing the situation.
