This article and the India coverage on TV has been very perceptive on the
American side of India's future role in geopolitics and econmomic
development.
This whole week, the Charlie Rose Show has been focussing on India. Rose is
in India conducting interviews with editors of major Indian dailes, Natl.
Sec. Advisor, Aziz Premji (Wipro) and Nandan Nelakani (Infosys) and others.
Watching all the interviews, one comes with a feeling that "India has
arrived" in the world stage as a major player. All them, without exception,
see an extremely bright future for India. They expect a steady growth from
7-10 percent to continue. It seems that this steady growth is inevitable -
it would happen inspite of structural or governmental impediments.
The fact that 40% of Indians are in the 25-30 years range it seems is a big
plus. These young Indians are not shackled by subservient ties to the Raj,
they are creative, innovative and have an attitude that can take India
forward with or without 'help' from outside - ie there is a new energy out
there.
I think, this is the time for *some* in Assam (Axom, Asom) to also shed
their feelings of alienation and working against national interest and join
the rest of the country in its pursuit of great economic wealth. Instead of
hoisting impediments to a success story, they too can participate as a key
player in a vibrant India.
