Dear mr. Thakur:
It was simply wonderful. Tarun Hazarika happens to be my eldest uncle, he is
today 88 years old, but still drives from tezpur to Guwahati regularly. His
escapades, if chronicalised, would have really kept a whole generation
enchanted. The one you narrated was, of course, not known to us, but I find
new stories about him emerging every time I find someone who knew him.
He belonged to the genre of pioneers who were instrumental in bringing the
North eastern hill tracts to the Indian mainstream. They belonged to the
Indian frontier Administrative Service (IFAS), were hardy pioneers who would
track for days together to open the interiors to the rest of the country.
Incidentally Tarun Hazarika is a very good singer too. He acted and sang in
the fourth Assamese film: "Rupahi". He sang the song "Akolxaria Batorua"
solo and with Saaru Bordoloi sang "Nobolo tok Xonar Axom" in the film.
I shall tell him about you today.

Incidentally Bhaimon (Amal Hazarika), he is I think 84 , today is virtually
an one man army trying to fight the corrupt engineers and officers of the
Guwahati Municipality. He is dreaded by everyone who has a job to do in
Guwahati city, but either is a thief or incompetent nincompoo.

I am really very proud of my uncles.

Regards and keep the flow running. "those were the days my friend we thought
would never end......"
