With regard bombings in Varanasi etc:
A recent survey in US shows that nearly half (46%) Americans feel that Islam promotes violence. That is up 7% from the time of Sep 11 , 2001 bombings.

India has witnessed terrorism by some followers of Islam for centuries - and again glaringly when terrorised India surrendered and gave them territories -which then constituted East and West Pakistan - and now Bangladesh and Pakistan. West Bengal - the Indian state - has no counterpart called East Bengal -- becos that is precisely Bangladesh.
It is true that we should not blame the current generation in those countries for what their anscestors did - of carving out Islamic nations out of "secular" India. However, these nations have done little even now - to show that they are on the path of secularism and peace. True that currently Pakistan is talking the language of peace now - after Westerners have found out their role in Sep 11 bombings in USA and 2005 bombings in UK etc and nulcear proliferation.
However, there is little evidence that any strong movement is in progress to put in place democratic and secular govts in these countries, which can oppose those dominant brands of mullahs --who rave about Islamic dominance of the world.
Itis true there is some amount of devil in all humans and thus in all religious and social groups - just like we have millions of virus in our bodies. But in some groups this virus is threatening to take over the entire immune system .
In countires such as Malaysia (with its Muslim population) US is trying to get a Free Trade pact - becos it is very secular and democratic - but in most nations where Islam is the dominant faith -- people of other faith -incl foreigners would be slightly more praying to God -when they enter such places.
As the saying goes - currently: Itis true that not every Muslim is a terrorist - but it is also true that every (international) terrorist is a muslim.
What are the Islamic groups doing to tackle these international terrorists? Is Malaysia or Indonesia or Bangladesh joining hands with each other to rout out such people and their ideology? Have they set up a gobal task force - for justice? I haven't heard such news - have you?
Umesh
PS: When you venture into a field full of cows you do not expect to to get attacked and eaten - on the other hand when you venture into a lake full of crocodiles you are rightly fearful for their lives. So why do people (non Muslims and most women) afraid when they venture into most Islamic nations or even neighborhoods?
