"Capture a Bangladeshi intruder and get a reward of Rs 3,000."

And these poor villagers think that will stop the influx?

_______________________
Capture a Bangladeshi intruder and get a reward of Rs 3,000. That's the
standing order issued to villagers by the Raid Nongshken, a Khasi body,
which governs the hamlets along the international border of the East Khasi
Hills.

The 20-km-long stretch of fertile land along the international border
criss-crossing Nongjri-Umniuh-Nongshken villages belong to the Khasis. The
area mostly produces betel nuts, bay leaves and fruits.

"It is very difficult to guard our plantations. That is why we have been
instructed by the Raid Nongshken not to spare Bangladeshi intruders," said a
local resident. There have been several incidents of theft of betel nuts and
fruit in the past.

Concerned plantation owners have even employed local armed guards to prevent
further looting.
