Hi,
   
  I got this email last week about winning hundreds of thousands of dollars from a Swedish National Lottery -for which I had not applied -  and I folowed it up. Nothing to lose. Even sent a copy of my passport minus my date of birth and signature. 
   
  I was wondering if it really was all true then what would i do with all this money. Like the guy who has being hungry for so long that he stops feeling hungry - this money would give me no happiness either. However, I could easily repay my entire student loan of $40,000 at one go (there is such a provision in the www.mefa.org loan) and then enroll perhaps in a teacher ed. program - to get a teaching certification - alongwith supervised teacher training. Ofcourse, at Harvard I have learnt all sorts  strategies for education reform - just like in Military Academy cadets might be learning all sorts of weaponry deployment tactics. However, what exactly are these tools nd how and when to deploy them --one learns by practice. Being from India where school education is last priority (except for one's own children) and  focus is on miraculously developing techies fluent in english and global skills -- one has to start anew.
   
  Schols to students
  Today while reading Holt's book (How children learn) I remembered that this money (some hundreds of thousadn's of dollars) could also be utilized in sponsoring  students of Jaipur School for master's or PhD program at top US Univs. Those who are top Indian colleges (IITs etc) can easily get into lower rung US univs with schol. I would be ready to sponsor them fully (as gift/grant/or long term loan -as they choose) only if they wish to join and have been admitted to the following ones. 
   
  Harvard (Bhavana Bothra (of Jain faith) the first girl from JS to join IIT (at KGP) following C-da's advice in his own deptt of Architecture there - could be seleced at Harvard's school of design or at MIT's Urban Planning inst. etc -my knowledge is limited but about $100,000 spent there) ), MIT, Univ. of California at Berkeley, Stanford -also at Carnegie Mellon, Univ. of Michigan-ann Arbor, Caltech, UCLA, Princeton, Yale , John Hopkins or Univ of Maryland -College Park or Texas -A&M or Columbia. A alum of JS (Gaurav ) student at IIT-Gauhati mentioned that one of his seniors had gotten into MIT last year -the only other one was from IIT-Chennai. A girl from JS made it to Delhi Medical College -she might be intereseted in a four year medical degree at US ($200,000 spent there)
   
  I believe that it is not difficult to get admission to the above for top Indians - it is the schol which is difficult to get. . A lot of students might be getting admission to Harvard or MIT but might have to choose a lesser one -for wantof schol. However, just like my friend sponsored me to study at Harvard I could sponsor these students to study at top univs. I strongly believe in Trickle Down Theory - of Info and also in the Theory of Follow Thy Neighbor. Thus, when one student or more come to study or work at top organizations - others follow suit. 
   
  Ofcourse, it all depends upon whether the lottery prize was real. I will soon find out. But I believe that many NRIs or Indians or other individuals already have enough money for such causes which they choose tofritter away in useless endevors.
