yasmin saikia of univ of north carolina claims that
the word "ahom" in the buranjis did not denote an
ethnic group, but the offical-dom of the ahom state.

as for buranjis, you might find the first few pages of
the bahgarhia burhagohain buranji (of atan
burhagohain) interesting (attached).
