Hi all,
I think thatÂ’s an excellent idea to help out aspiring local students from Assam to study abroad. In my personal opinion students would need the most help while preparing for standardized tests and application process. I am pretty sure that there are plenty of good students from the Northeastern region of India and we can make their dream come true.
I am also planning to be in Assam from Nov 29th to Dec 17th 2006 and so let me know if that can be helpful. I am not aware of any online help for students from our region. Perhaps Momy can take the initiative in designing a website for the same.
A brief introduction: I am Hemanta Baruah, originally from Nagaon, Assam. I finished my PhD in Chemistry from Wake Forest University, NC, USA. Now doing my postdoctoral research at MIT, Cambridge, MA, USA.
How can I be helpful?
I guess I can provide information about US universities and guide students to choose universities depending on their academic profiles. I am sure I will be a valuable resource particularly for students interested in chemistry and biological sciences. I understand the application process is an expensive one and so we can also help some of the needy students financially (for the application process). In chemistry and biological sciences an offer (in 99 % cases) for PhD comes with a scholarship sufficient to bear the living expenses of the student.

Guess a website through the community in London (if one exists) can help. If
required, I am willing to help in designing it, provided I am given all the
required information and assistance.
I have never lived in any part of Assam, however my family has recently
moved to Assam for a temporary period and I am visiting them in Nov (13 Nov
- 1 dec). If anyone you guys know of is preparing to come abroad and needs
some questions answered, I will be available for a in person talk.
