[Assam] What a shame

Folks,
Amazing how quickly we can take umbrage at a young,
well intentioned person's sense of frustation!
I personally think AssamNet needs new blood too. That
means more set of faces, a wider set of discussions
than "India baiting or ULFA baiting" and yes, even
Momy's idea of setting up the student help website.
I think that would need the stalwarts here to be
patient a bit. Lord knows it is tough enough to
survive C-da's barbs. Tougher still to give it back in
good measure.
I think in addition to pondering over the weighty
issues of Assam, it might just be useful for the
network as a whole to start simple stupid threads like
Assamese jokes, antakshari and stuff like that. In
addition to useful tools like what Momy has suggested.
And that would need new blood for sure. I know I am
not about to start a jokes thread myself.
All that is required is for that new blood to survive.
Even if it is precocious to begin with. Every Assamese
outside Assam (or India) feels he is God's gift to
mankind.
I also frequent Silchar.com and I find its young,
sometimes stupid but always vibrant discussions
lively. I must admit I come back to read up on C-da's
barbs though :-)
Please give it some thought.
Jugalda, what's your vision of where you want to take
this site?
Hopefully, Momy (and others to follow) would also wake
up to the thought that if you have to sell an idea to
people you cannot take offense at first go.

That's A PATERNALISTIC (or)Maternalistic ATTITUDE from
Momy. Whether she could be given a Maternal Status is
indeterminate! Which Student going abroad will listen
to her advice-.Q is -WHAT IS HER ADVICE WORTH?
They might even brush her aside -"My mind is made up.
Don't confuse me with facts".
I asked her -the day this rising Sun peeped up the
Horizon--"Post your smiling photo-in-your Sunday
best-to be received well and considered fit to be
dialogued with" She didn't even respond .
Some great man said 'Absenmindedness deserves no
repetition'
Sorry if another star fell by the roadside!
More will appear.
And the world will go round and round.

P.S. However-- 3 days back-I gave a printout of
Momy's/Dr Jogen Kalita's postings on their -Dying -to
helpthe poor ignorant Assamese children needing an
exposure to the Bright West-to become fit citizens of
the world--- to the Director of Omeo Kumar Das
Institute of Social Change and Development-Guwahati5

Hi Momy,
I think C'da put it very well.
But I understand your frustrations about students NOT
being helped etc.
Many of us participating on this net have been
students. And as students we too had to go through the
same myraid of problems that students often face.
But the fact that you are in the UK or US, tells many
of us that you have the gumption and the wherewithal
to come overseas.
>Some of you are even so critical about the NRIs or
the >government, so on .. the list is endless....
And what is your suggestion? We don't?
>And the events organized in London, its a shame that
not all >Assamese in UK are even aware of them.....
That could happen in the US as well (or even Delhi or
Mumbai). IMHO, event organization is a tough business,
and usually a thankless one in the end. Yes, sometimes
someone does get left out - but usually it is not out
of intent.
But, if you or others felt slighted, it would seem
appropriate for you to join these select group of
organizers and show them how to make things happen.

This has been done before - suggestions for aspiring
students. I remember reading in the AT, many years
ago, articles on the subject.
The second part, you missed is an important one.
Many of us who came here many, many years ago, are now
totally cluless about the new immigration rules,
tests, or studies that could help aspiring students.
Something like this has to be a student effort -
because they know the situation much better than us
old foggies.
Young Assamese have several sites devoted just to talk
about their issues - one I know is called Texamese.
>Its a shame really and for those who criticize the
politicians, just >know that you are the same
kind....u could only speak but can't >initiate an
action which is why there are no results!!!!!
Really! How do you know we are the 'same kind' ? I
will just leave it at that.
>Discussing on big issues is easy but taking a very
small
>action becomes difficult, isn't it????
Of course it is. What is the small action you are
proposing?
>Help those who really need some help.....and put your
words into >action to counter all your resentment.
Noble thoughts, no doubt. And if you didn't come along
and tell us about this, we would all have been lost
souls. :)
I am sorry that you think the best way for you to be
heard is to quit the net. But I hope you will change
your mind and take part in the discussions. As lousy
as you may see the net, it is one of the few sounding
boards many netters have.

Hi Momy:
I was disappointed to read your note on the
disappointments of your own.
Allow me to share a little observation of mine, with
the hope that you will take a moment of your precious
time to ponder: "Expectations is the mother of all
disappointments!" Is it catchy or what? Remember you
heard it here first :-).
The point is that you had expectations of
assamnetters; does not matter if they are realistic,
meaningful, useful, or otherwise. And since those were
not met, you are leaving the forum, in a huff, waving
your own virtues, imagined or real,
for others to see and go --Wow! What a young lady of
action she is!
But I understand. Most do. We have seen them all here.
Good news however is that you are young, and hopefully
still open to learning new tricks unlike some old us
old dogs. And it is NOT a beauty contest here -- to
prove what a hot-s--t one is or not :-).
New tricks? Indeed. You have shown how naive you are
about some of your assumptions, beliefs and
expectations, from the few notes you posted here. I
won't go into details now, but if you would like for
me to, I will be pleased to take them up for
discussion at a later time.
But that is nothing new. You are not alone in your
naivete. We have all been there. Again good news is
that we can shed them. How? Yes, by talking. By
debating, discussing and deliberating and by paying
attention.
You may ask: But isn't that a waste of time? Aren't
you guys just blowing air, accomplishing NOTHING?
Well, it would be, IF that is ALL we do.
See Momy, discussing and debating the issues we do, is
NOT mutually exclusive of doing something concrete.
That is what you fail to recognize. Again, no harm
done. You have a lot of time to learn.
Many netters do many things--for their own betterment
and for others' too. Not all talk of their actions or
contributions. And besides, there is ALWAYS a whole
lot more to the persona of these people than what
their posts in assamnet may indicate. It will do you
good to be aware of that.
What is important to recognize however, is that those
who know better, or are expected to know
better--people like yourselves, cannot and must not
remain smug in your own righteousness, your self-image
of a person of action, like you assert. For if you do,
you will be NO DIFFERENT from those who you perceive,
albeit on scant and superficial evidence of assamnet
posts, to be mere hot-air blowers, or having little to
contribute towards what YOU consider meaningful.
What is meaningful can come in many, many forms.
Another thing is that, we know, often a new member
would leave in a huff, because netters'
criticisms/comments hurt their sense of what they
hold dear: Often myths associated with their realities
or their beliefs.
And being unable or unwilling to articulate a defense
of their own values and views, they would cite others'
'egos' or pro-this or anti-that or
full-of-hot-air-ness. This is the quintessential
"Urohi-gosor-wrtw-onyo-korbat" syndrome. There is only
one cure for it: SPEAK UP, defend what you believe.
You will be surprised, that you CAN educate others.
And we will all be the better for it.
Gave you an earful, didn't I :-)?
Take care, and whether you return to assamnet or not,
all the best to you and yours.

Hi All,
I have observed that all of you registered on this
site are very pro active
in picking up national and international topics and
carrying on a wide
discussion pertaining to them. Some of you are even so
critical about the
NRIs or the government, so on .. the list is
endless....
And the events organized in London, its a shame that
not all Assamese in UK
are even aware of them.....And Mrs Rini Kakati , whom
I sent a mail
introducing myself replies to me saying she is very
busy and can't complete
a mail to someone who is seeking acquaintance with
people from home... Very
disappointing that the same lady has time to post her
"opinions" on the
site. Mere ignorance is what I recieved from a lady
who is apparantly
"holding up the flag of Assam in UK".....Look outside
the "site", we don't
even know you that well.....
When I replied to Mr Jogen's mail (Student helpline)
stating that I am
willing to help the aspiring students of Assam by
building a website so that
we can all contribute our experiences (if nothing
else) through the web
portal, none of you seem to further discuss it or
offer any kind of help
from your end. Discussing on big issues is easy but
taking a very small
action becomes difficult, isn't it????
Its a shame really and for those who criticize the
politicians, just know
that you are the same kind....u could only speak but
can't initiate an
action which is why there are no results!!!!!
Assamese in London are investing time and money on
stars like Zubin Garg,
who is already popular and well set on his career. He
doesn't need anymore
propaganda through Zee Tv or other channels as Bharat
ki janta has already
acknowledged his talents.
Help those who really need some help.....and put your
words into action to
counter all your resentment.
Momy
NB: I believe in actions over discussions. No
discussion is as great or
effective as a small action. So i am withdrawing from
this forum. For the
great minds who is investing their precious time and
ideas in keeping "only
this site alive"...All the best.........For those who
have atleast tried
acting on their words and not just propaganding their
thoughts through the
site, Good going guys and keep up the spirit and try
to influence people
from the other category!!!!
