This is an interesting letter in the context of naming conventions. The
writer does make some good points about some of the names. Highlights are
mine.

*Naming buildings
* Sir,–It is surprising to read the conspiracies hatched by former Prime
Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to dump Bangladeshis in Asom ( AT, October 8).
Still surprising is to see that the State Congress has never been able to
come out of the shadow of Nehru. *They ought to put the dead PM in the
backburner and move on with new ideas.
*
Lord Curzon was British by birth. But he did a lot for the development of
education in Asom as well as India. In fact, he promoted the native Asomiya
language alongwith English. However, for reasons unknown, the Curzon Hall
was renamed as Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Memorial Library. Any other government
building could have been named after late Nabin Chandra Bordoloi, but why
Curzon had to be withdrawn ?
*In Asom, we have auditoriums like Rabindra Bhawan, stadiums like Nehru
Stadium etc. named after Indians who had no regard for this State nor had
made any contributions towards its development*. Just because they were born
Indians doesn't mean that they cared for the whole sub-continent. *In the
name of White-bashing, several unworthy Browns have been glorified just
under the tag of 'Indian' nationality.* – Yours etc., Simanta Phukan,
Guwahati
