Subject: Letters to the Editor ------------ "Naming Asom buildings after
Traitors"

Sub: *Naming buildings in Asom after Traitors*

Dear Sir,

It is surprising to read the conspiracies hatched by former PM
Jawaharlal Nehru to dump Bangladeshis in Asom (Page 1, AT, Sunday, Oct 8,
2006). Still surprising is to see that the State Congress has never been
able to come out of the shadow of Nehru, an erstwhile PM. They ought to
put the dead PM in the backburner and move on with new ideas.
Lord Curzon was British by birth. But he did a lot for the
development of education in Asom as well as India. Infact, he promoted the
Native Asomiya language alongwith English. However, for reasons unknown, the
Curzon Hall was renamed as Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Memorial Library. Any
other govt building could have been named after late Nabin Chandra Bordoloi,
but why Curzon had to be withdrawn ?
In Asom, we have auditoriums like Rabindra Bhawan, stadiums like
Nehru Stadium etc. named after Indians who had no regard for this State of
their country nor had made any contributions towards its development. Just
because they were born Indians doesn't mean that they cared for the whole
sub-continent. In the name of White-bashing, several unworthy Browns have
been glorified just under the tag of 'Indian' nationality.

Yours truly ----

Simanta Phukan,

Bharalumukh,

Guwahati - 9
