Bhuban da,
Without going into the merits/demerits of the name itself (as it has been
dealt with in detail on this net), my concern is with the Govt. of Assam in
particular, and some intellectuals in general.
Based on some logic, the Govt. of Assam, in its infinite wisdom proposed a
name change (I am not sure why a Govt. so burdened with a myraid of other
problems would want to heap another lightening-rod problem over its head).
And then they have not actually followed thru to either see its proposal
into fruition or to reject it.
This half-hearted attempt, I think, has caused some serious
hesitation/confusion.
The situation is such that now, no one can say with any degree of clarity
what the official name of Assam is?
Given that, it now looks like a circus, with so many names being bandied
about.
The GOA has to take a leadership position in such matters, and ought not to
take forever to come to a decision.
Regards,
--Ram
