From housewife to techno-savvy entrepreneur
By A City Correspondent
GUWAHATI, Oct 22 It was no doubt an identity makeover for Bandana Medhi, when she decided to launch her own website a couple of months back. From a housewife to a computer savvy entrepreneurthe change is yet to settle in for those knowing Bandana to be a doting mother and devoted wife.
But for Bandana, her website christened www.assam24X7. com, is not just a matter of pride, given the response it has been receiving so far, it is also a way of asserting herself and her ideas.
In those moments which she had solely for herself, Bandana had the brainwave to start a website which would cater to the people of the North East.
The site is packed with information on a wide range of topicsone can do business at a click and buy and sell traditional articles of the region. A lot of information is provided on the educational institutions and the courses they offer.
It is still like a dream for me. I knew nothing about computers until my son started learning computers at his school. To make him understand the textbooks on computers, I started reading his books along with him, said Bandana, recalling the period of her initiation into the techno world.
Though motherly duty and affection had worked behind the transformation of a housewife, the ideas to include as much as possible from the business, entertainment, tourism, astrology, glamour and all the other sectors in the website, were quick to emerge.
Bandana even conceptualised an online magazine and gave concrete shape to her ideas. Batadrawa, is considered the first bilingual e-magazine of the State.
I am happy that the magazine has become popular, particularly in foreign countries. This magazine provides vivid description of the culture and practices of North East, explained Bandana.
The site also takes one to the world of the artists. An online art gallery of artist Noni Borpujari is available in the website.
A special section, on the other hand, deals with the problems of children. Child specialists from the city regularly contribute to this section.
Very soon Bandana is going to come up with the first ever online yellow page of the State. Right from the address of a plumber to information about a vehicle spare part, the page is going to serve as an answer to all the headaches that are part of the drab day-to-day life. The date of launching of the yellow page has been fixed on December 31.
