[Assam] Beyond discussions -volunteer

  I was thinking whether Indian origin NGOs in US etc should help set up new private schools in India OR should help improve the oversight/supervision of govt run schools in Assam and other parts of India. I recalled my many papers at Harvard and the conclusion many drew that Indian school system is based on laizez faire /freedom -- noone enforces the rules and no supervision of schools exists (in practice). NGOs can take up that task - just pay visits to govt run schools from time to time and help get teachers and students in schools (esp in rural areas). Some might recall that in India about 25% teachers are always absent and those who are present are seldom in classroom (making sunning outside or sipping tea outside) -as per World bank report 2004.
   
  Teach for India like TFA in US might be useful too - perhaps there are many Indian youth who would be willing to take it up. http://www.teachforamerica.org/
