Home stint before passage to London
- Arunachal Pradesh, with its paradisal beauty and well-informed fans, pleasantly surprises singer IDOL CHAT Debojit Saha (right) and Vineet at the London concert Voice of India Debojit Saha writes about his recent tour of the Northeast where he was part of some power-packed shows...
I am quite used to hectic schedules now. But the past week has been particularly gruelling as I hopped from one place to another across the Northeast, performing for the people who helped me reach where I am. My first performance was at picturesque Naharlagun, Itanagars twin city, in Arunachal Pradesh, on Wednesday. I fell in love with the place the moment I landed there. Naharlagun was like a picture painted in green, with gurgling mountain streams and a very pleasant climate. Arunachal Pradesh is a paradise, which is yet to be sullied by the brash stokes of modern lifestyles.
I had never imagined that I would find so many fans in a place like Arunachal Pradesh. At times, pre-conceived notions turn out to be horribly wrong and in my case, I was happy to be proven wrong.
Prior to my show at Naharlagun, I had thought that people out there must not have heard about me.
To my surprise, they know each and everyone from the galaxy of Bollywood singers, from K.L. Saigal of yesteryears to Sunidhi Chauhan.
I was speechless. There I was, face to face with thousands of cheering fans, who requested me to sing compositions by Bhupenda (Bhupen Hazarika).
After Naharlagun, I performed at Nalbari in Assam, along with everyones favourite Zubeen Garg. While Zubeen enthralled music lovers with Ya Ali, I did my bit with Dumma Dumma from my album Debojit.
In Nalbari too, the audience was a highly informed one. Zubeen and I had a rocking time in the Lower Assam town.
My last stop was Guwahati. There, I performed at the Nehru Stadium along with several other top singers, including Babul Supriyo, Abhijit Sawant and Vinod Rathod, to name a few.
Several Bollywood stars, including Fardeen Khan and Udita Goswami, also performed at the show. This was my second performance in Guwahati after winning the Voice of India title. Performing in front of a home crowd has its own charm.
For me, it was a humbling experience. The Guwahati crowd was absolutely great. Their enthusiasm inspires singers to perform even better.
As I wrapped up my Northeast tour, it was time to fly off to London for a concert, with a stopover in Mumbai.
Though I have been busy with my concerts, I have not lost sight of my primary goal that of making it as a playback singer. A number of music directors have given me offers, but till something concrete happens, I would not like to reveal anything.
Talks are also on with music directors on my second album.
But that, too, is at a premature stage. My fans will certainly be the first to know once everything is finalised. Till then, enjoy music and be happy.
