AAMSAs ban on Samujjal draws flak
>From our Correspondent
SILCHAR, Aug 3: Different political parties and students bodies have strongly condemned the statement of All Assam Madrassa Students Association (AAMSA) president Saleh Ahmed Mazumdar not to allow AASU advisor Samujjal Bhattacharyya to visit Barak Valley accusing him of fomenting hatred and animosity among different communities on the issue of Bangladeshi nationals. BJP State president and former Silchar MLA Bimolangshu Roy said, The AAMSA presidents statement is highly provocative and smacks of a well-calculated design to frustrate the ongoing drive against Bangladeshis.
AGP Cachar district president Manas Bhattacharjee took serious exception to AAMSAs stand and said, Our executive body will meet soon to examine the implication of the statement of AAMSA and if the president of the association did mean what he said, it would be most undemocratic.
All Cachar-Karimganj-Hailakandi Students Association (ACKHSA) chief advisor Pradip Dutta Roy pointed out, Samujjal Bhattacharyya is a citizen of India and has every right to visit any part of the country. He dubbed the stand of AAMSA as most unfortunate.
Ahlo Sunnat Wal Jamaat chief advisor Maulana Charimal Haque said that the AAMSA could not take the liberty on itself to obstruct the entry or movement of Bhattacharyya in the Barak Valley. All Assam Minorities Students Union (AAMSU) Hailakandi unit president Maulana Hasnujjaman was equally strident in criticizing the AAMSA for its provocative statement and accused Saleh Ahmed Mazumdar of creating communal instability.
The district units of AASU of Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi, at a joint press meet on Thursday at Hailakandi, reacted sharply to the AAMSAs stand and asserted that any attempt to prevent Samujjal Bhattacharyya from entering the valley will be resisted by all means, and warned the association not to indulge in such campaign against the distinguished student leader. They said as planned Bhattacharyya will attend the AASU convention at Hailakandi on August 9 and at Silchar on August 10, besides visiting the areas bordering Mizoram.
Manjur Ahmed Barbhuiyan, AASU leader of Cachar unit, said, We should not forget that Samujjal Bhattacharyya garnered support for Debojit Saha in the North-east to make him the Voice of India, and brought both the valleys of Brahmaputra and Barak closer. To call him anti-Bengali is most unfortunate.
HOWRAGHAT: Meanwhile, the All Dimasa Students Union (ADSU) also condemned the AAMSAs ban on entry of Samujjal Bhattacharyya to the Barak Valley.
