As C-da was mentioning what is taught is also important - I mean some science items need tech support as well - such as teaching Gas laws in Lab - using electronic equipment (injection syringe connected to a sensor -) connected to a computer to measure pressure , temperature etc - thats more lively and costly too (a bit atleast). That I learned from a student of chemistry I am working with of USA 's top school - http://information.tjhsst.edu/summer.html
