B’deshi daily dwells on atrocities on Hindus

GUWAHATI, Aug 1: The Lok Jagaran Mancha, Asom, claimed that the over three crore Hindu population of Bangladesh in 1971, when the country got independence, has been reduced to about one crore within a period of just 36 years, mainly due to atrocities on them by the majority community of that country. 
It may be mentioned here that in its August 1 issue, the Dainik Bhorer Kagaj, a Bengali daily being published from Bangladesh, published a front-page report stating the oppression that the minority Hindus in that country had to face at the hands of the Muslims. Citing enough evidence in favour of the alleged atrocities on Hindus by the majority community there, the Bangladeshi daily said that it was impossible on the part of the Bangladesh Government to sustain a democratic system and society if it continued to keep black laws that were amended in the Fifth and Eighth amendments to the Constitution of that country. “Because of the black laws in place, the Hindus in Bangladesh are subjected to oppression, and in order to create a liberal democracy in the country, the Bangladesh Government has to take some concrete steps, failing which the country will be branded as communal,” the daily said.
The daily further said that Human Rights Congress for Bangladesh Minority and the Foundation against Continuing Terrorism organized photo exhibitions and seminars in Washington on July 30 and 31 this year on the religious minority and their condition in Bangladesh. The speakers at the seminar, such as Bangladeshi human rights activist and writer Shahriar Kabir, Frank Pyaloni of the US, Iliana Basu, Dr Amalendu Chatterjee, Bangladeshi freedom fighter Sachin Karmakar, president of Hindu, Buddha and Christian Coordination Committee Rup Kumar Bhowmik, Bangladeshi human rights leader Shitangshu Haque and others, said that if Bangladesh failed to stop the atrocities on its minorities, the nation would turn into a country of Islamic militants.
   
   
  ‘Wage a war against B’deshis’

GUWAHATI, Aug 1: The Lok Jagaran Mancha, Asom, has appealed to the Asomiyas to wage a war against the Bangladeshis staying in the State. 
Talking to newsmen in the city today, Lok Jagaran Mancha chief convenor Doyal Krishna Bora said: “If the Asomiyas want to live in Asom, they have to adopt two strategies — every Asomiya should adopt measures so that no Bangaldeshi can enter his or her area. If there are reports of any intrusion of Bangaldeshis into any area, the local people should take them to the police for necessary legal action. The people should also put pressure on the State and Central Governments over the Bangaldeshi issue so as to compel the Governments to take the help of Army or police against the Bangladeshis staying in the State.”
Bora also said Dhubri, where the Muslim population touched 78 per cent, has become the training centre of fundamentalist groups like the MULFA. “These fundamentalist groups have been imparting training to youths for turning Asom into an Islamic state,” Bora said, adding that said since 1905 a conspiracy was hatched to form an Islamic State in Asom and the North-east driving the Asomiyas and Hindus away. 
On the recent AAMSU threat and its U-turn later, Bora said: “The AAMSU’s regret for hurting the sentiment of the Asomiyas is also a plan.”
