The UPA Chairperson,Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and the Home Minister Mr. Shivraj Patil are undertaking an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas in Bihar and Assam. The Congress President arrived at Lilabari airport in Lakhimpur district before leaving for Dhemaji by a special IAF chopper. About 500 flood-hit people staying in relief camps met Gandhi who stayed in Dhemaji, for over half-an-hour.
Today on 10.30 am the President of UPA Sonia Gandhi arrived in Dhemaji. Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Congress leader Digvijay Singh and Congress General Secrectary accompanied with her. There are about 100 nos. of flood affected people also attended in Demaji Circuit House. Mrs. Sonia Gandhi interected with them regarding their problem created by the terrible flood. The Chief Minister of Assam Mr. Tarun Gogoi, Water Resource Minister Barat Nara local M.L.A. Mrs. Sumitra also accompanied with Sonia Gandhi. Home Minister Shiv Raj Patil also interacted with flood affect people. The flood affected people requested to Mrs. Sonia Gandhi about terrible flood problem, repairind of flood affected house, and route communication problem. Mrs Gandhi assured to take necessary action immediately as far as possible. the local Congress and Assam Gana Preshad submitted memorandum regarding terrible flood problem, route communication and establish a modern engineering college in
Dhemaji Mrs. Gandhi spent 40 minute in Dhemaji
The Congress chief directed Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to ensure that the district authorities provide adequate relief to the affected people, besides improving the condition of roadways.
Mrs.Gandhi, who was accompanied by Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, AICC General Secretary in charge of Assam, Digvijay Singh.
