499 acre State land under  Bangla occupation

 GUWAHATI, Aug 7 – A total of 499.83 acre (202.40 hectare) land of  the State is under the adverse occupation of Bangladesh. Of this, 310.77 acre  belonged to Karimganj district and 189.60 acre belonged to Dhubri district.  Stating this in the State Assembly today Revenue Minister Dr Bhumidhar Barman  said that these areas of the State were under the occupation of Bangladesh since  it was known as East Pakistan. While The said Karimganj district area went to  the neighbouring country’s occupation in 1964-65, the Dhubri district area is  under its occupation since 1947.

The Government of India is aware of this  adverse occupation of State land by the neighbouring country and the issue has  been taken up for resolution as per the provisions of 1974 India-Bangladesh  (Indira-Mujib) Treaty. The State Government is making communications with the  Central Government from time to time in this connection, said the  Minister.
