>From our Reporter
TINSUKIA, Aug 19: The Tinsukia District Unnati Xabha has appealed to all Asom-loving nationalist organizations of the State to come forward and protest against the Tinsukia district administration, which has been providing protection to people of suspected nationality.
General secretary of the Asom Unnati Xabha (AUX), Tinsukia district, Pranab Kumar Borah, in a press release, has expressed that by not fulfilling the directives of the court’s order, the government has violated the Constitution of India. The release says that according to the Immigrants (expulsion from Assam) Act, 1950 “serious situations had arisen from the immigration of a very large number of East-Bengal residents into Assam, which is disturbing the economy of the province besides giving rise to serious law and order problems. The bill seeks to confer necessary powers to deal with the situation.”
The Tinsukia district unit of the AUX questioned as to why the Tinsukia district administration has failed to implement the clauses of the Act. Though the district administration has take many photographs and addresses of the suspected persons, they are yet to verify their nationality.
The Tinsukia district administration are giving the suspected immigrants an opportunity to mingle with the people of Asom, the press release alleged, which is an anti-nationalist act and not acceptable at any cost. The AUX has appealed to all legal experts of the State to take steps for filing cases against persons who are found to be giving shelter to the alleged foreigners
The AUX has also stated that the deportation of foreigners lies in the hands of the administration, magistrates and police. If they refrain from doing their duty, as laid down by the Constitution, they should be punished severely. The AUX has further expressed that the Supreme Court had questioned the IMDT Act ( clause no 39 of 1983) and Illegal Migrants Rules, 1984, and Passport (entry into India) Act 1920, Foreigners Act, 1946, Immigration (expulsion from Assam) Act, 1950 and Passport Act 1967, through a judgement given on July 12, 2005. But the State Government is yet to do anything about it.
