Asom soldier’s body brought to State after 40  yrs

DIBRUGARH,  Aug 20: The body of Mahendranath Phukon, a soldier in 715 TPT who had died in a  helicopter accident at Leh way back on February 7, 1968, was brought to  Mohanbari Airport here today. The body, which had remained untraced, was  recovered and identified on August 9 by an expedition team of the Dogra Scouts  at an altitude of over 17,500 feet. Three other bodies were also recovered from  the spot. Members of 306 Field Regiment carried Phukon’s body to Sivasagar where  the body will be kept at the civil hospital morgue tonight. The last rites of  Phukon would be carried out at his ancestral home at Deodhai Gaon Deuri Chuk  under Amguri police station tomorrow. He was the third son of Late Gunaram  Phukon.
