Asomiya director wins international film award

MANGALDAI Aug 24: Though we have been marching towards the zenith of our civilization with scientific innovations and progressive thinking yet we fail to ignore superstitions, and astrology is still playing a crucial part of our daily life. Superstitious belief in the name of astrology brought a tragic end to the life of a newly-wed couple.
And capturing this tragedy in celluloid in his debut as a director, prominent singer, musician, composer and producer Sadananda Gogoi has been adjudged winner of the ‘Best International Directorial Debut’ (Best International Director for First Film) award for his short film Shatikar Andhar (Darkness of Century) in the New York International Independent Film & Video Festival held in New York in July. Gogoi, under the banner of M/S TV Focus, has also produced the film besides penning down the script writer and composing the music for his 18-minute film which has been able to bring laurels to the State.
Mention may be made here that Sadananda Gogoi has also directed and produced a documentary on the life and works of Papori Kabi Ganesh Gogoi under the title Ganesh Gogoir Jeevan Suravi as a tribute to this worthy son of the State synchronizing with the centenary celebration of his birthday. This film has also been invited to the South Asian Film Festival scheduled to be held in Dhaka.
