46th annual meet of Asom Natya Sanmilan held

DHEMAJI, Dec 1 The 46th annual conference of Asom Natya Sanmilan, the greatest dramatic organisation in Assam was held at Dhemaji Gymnastics Club playground which was named after Dhirendra Nath Buragohain Natya Kshetra with a four-day-long programme recently.
The conference commenced with opening of the delegates camp by Sumitra Patir, president of reception committee and local MLA. On the occasion, Arun Sarmah, outgoing president of Asom Natya Sanmilan hoisted the flag, while working president Umesh Sarmah performed smriti tarpan.
The book fair and the exhibition arranged for the conference was inaugurated by artist Nuruddin Ahmed, while the newly-constructed Dhemaji town stage was inaugurated by president Arun Sarmah. In his inaugural speech, Sarmah hoped that the newly built stage at Dhemaji town will fulfil the want of stage at the town to a certain degree.
At noon, MP Kumar Dipak Das inaugurated the 46th annual conference of Asom Natya Sanmilan where distinguished writer professor Tokheswar Chetia released the souvenir Rangamancha. Chetia highlighted the role of drama in bringing out the reforms in society. He called upon the dramatists in the state to write drama mainly for bringing about change in our society. Therefore, a dramatical quiz and poem recitation competition were held in memory of late Tarinee Deka and Phuleswar Bhuyan.
In the evening the colorful cultural function arranged in memory of Anil Dutta was participated by a few noted artists like film actor Pranjal Saikia, Mridul Boruah.
Next morning, the first sitting of Sadharan Parishad was held with Arun Sarmah in the chair. The sitting along with some other proposals, took resolution to publish the souvenir of Asom Natya Sanmilan in every three months from instant. MP Kumar Dipak Das announced in the meeting that he would provide necessary fund for construction of the central office building of the Natya Sanmilan in Guwahati.
In the evening, State Cultural Minister Gautam Borah opened the one-act play competition in memory of Banshidhar Dutta. Earlier in the afternoon, mimes and one-actor-play competition were also held in memory of late Durgeswar Sarmah Boruah.
The second sitting of Sadharan parishad held in the next morning decided to hold drama competition in the State in four circle basis and for this purpose the state was divided into four circles namely Kampith, Ratnapith, Swarnapith and Sourmarpith. The parishad also called upon both government and ULFA to come forward for talks for maintaining peace in the State. The meeting also urged government to adopt scientific measure for solution of long-suffered flood problem of Dhemaji.
The one-act plays played in the previous night were analysed by Dr Anil Saikia, Simanta Phukan and Prasanta Sarmah. At noon dramatist Gliana Hazarika, Hemanta Borpatra Gohain and Prasanta Sarmah discussed the present flow of Assamese drama. In the representatives meeting held in the evening, a new executive committee of the Natya Sanmilan for the next session was constituted comprising 31 members with Dr Akhil Chakraborty as president, Umesh Sarmah as working president Najimuddin Ahmed as chief secretary, Kurunjyoti Saikia, Hem Chandra Borah, Jiten Sarmah and Palsitra Borah as vice-president, Prasanta Phukan, Jyoti Prasad Konwar, Anil Kalita and Harikrishna Das as secretaries and Ramesh Talukdar as treasurer. At night, one-act play competition was held again in memory of Tepuram Konwar and Laboram Chutia.
On the fourth and last day a colourful procession was taken out at 10 am in the entire Dhemaji town which was inaugurated by Dhemaji SP Kangkanjyoti Saikia.
In the afternoon, the open session with Dr Akhil Chakraborty, the newly elected president, in chair, was inaugurated by Narayan Chandra Deva Goswami, the sutradhikar of Natun Kamalabari Satra. Addressing the session, Goswami highlighted the flow of Assamese drama from pre-Vedic age. In the open meeting the purpose was explained by outgoing secretary of the sanmilan Pankaj Mudiar. A member of distinguished personalities including the outgoing president of Asom Natya Sanmilan Arun Sarmah, renowned film actor Pranjal Saikia, actress Purnima Saikia, Dr Dilip Boruah, Nilima Lahan and Dr Puspa Gogoi were felicitated. In the one-act play competition held in the natya sanmilan, the drama team Chan 2200 of Purani Gudam won the first prize, team Mon Nagna Nagna Samay of Barpeta won the second prize and the third prize was won by the team Aang Dainee Nanga of Dhakin Pakua Bauhjani.
On the other hand, Navajyoti Borah (drama Jot Khuchura Hoi Jivan) won the glory of being best actor while Gitanjali Das (drama Mon Nagna Nagna Samay) won the position of best actress on the other hand, Anjan Bhuyan (drama Chau 2200) was selected as the best director while Jayanta Kr Borah was placed as the best one-act play writer who wrote Chan 2200. In mimes competition Rituparna Kalita (Mangaldoi) secured 1st, Khanchamal Deori (Naharkatia) secured 2nd and Diganta Dihingia (Dhemaji) won 3rd position. Likewise, Masum Saikia of Nowbaicha occupied the first position in poem recitation.
