Dear Mr.Jyotirmoy,
Thanks for the post.Dating back to 1989,I did wrote one speed post letter to the Chief conservator of Forest GHY, describing one Shaw mill owner (One Saikia-I forgot the name now)from Rangapara having mill close inside Kaziranga coming to Kanpur to buy guns that used for killing Rhino and elephants including wild buffalos. I did requested him to reply me so that I could give further details. His one relative was well known to me, who was at Kanpur.
But nothing had happened.Through my friend I could get informations that all the nearby people rich and politicals powerholders are highly involved with the KNP official and hotel owners. So sad......
My younger brother, The Sentinel Mangaldai reporter, former AASU sentral GS(Orgn) Bhargab Kumar Das is NE regional Wild life Warden. With his inititive now Orang national Park is wel safe.he toolk pain to educate nearby villages with forest officials. Can anyone contact him please? His mobile is 09854401188.
I hope something could be done.
Thanks.
Bikash

At this rate, there will be no rhinoes left at Kaziranga. It seems that
people inside the park( one can see the abundance of huts that have come up
inside the park ) must definitely have a hand in these unlawful activities.
The only way to save the animals is to evict these encroachers from the
vicinity of the park.
The local villagers around Kaziranga too must be taken into confidence and
educated about the need to protect the animal species. They should be taught
to not see the animal as a means of earning quick money.
2007 has been a very year for the park with quite a number of rhinoes killed
by poachers and floods. Hope Kaziranga does not become another Sariska where
the entire tiger population was wiped out. Does anyone have any suggestion
how Kaziranga can be helped?
