[Assam] Two Orchids from Assam

Indeed!
It is always a delight to witness the transformations -- from the
little emerging eyes on the stems during our bleak winters, to bud
forming, to flower opening. To us here they are far more exotic than
they should be in their natural habitats. Unfortunately, they are
rare even in Assam today due to habitat loss and predation of
unthinking man. Often people collect them only to let them die from
lack of knowledgeable care.
The colors look so vibrant due to the bright natural light and the
dark background. I shot them in the morning sun filtering into our
living room. Created the uncluttered dark background with a blue
blanket on the couch. It is still cold here.
Viewing something in the best light is a learned experience. The
quality of light, angle of incidence, placement of the objects in the
field--all contribute to the pleasures of viewing something. Light
being the master form-giver, is the most important element. Decades
behind the camera has taught me how to view objects in the best
available light and I try to share the pleasures when I can :-).
