Yesterday's PRATIDIN (I saw from a distance-do not get it) carried a front pager:
70% cancer Patients in INDIA are from NE.
I take all "Journalists" in good humour but how this "Inauguration" links up to this 70% thingie?MM

The event was presided over by eminent Radiation Oncologist of India, Prof (Dr) GG Ahmed. Hemen Das stated that it was a great day for the region and further asserted that there was an increase in number of cancer patients. Resorting to statistics he said most cancer patients in India were from the Northeast and Assam and that the people from the region have to travel out side their states for treatment. But now they can afford to be treated here itself. Dr PM Barua, MD of the hospital, offered the vote of thanks.> > Built on a 2.5 acre sprawling land, the institute presently has 4 OT blocks and the IPD can accommodate 100 patients after completion of the first phase of construction, which is estimated at Rs 30 crore and is financed by Indian Overseas Bank. Equipped with the latest facilities in cancer treatment like Liver Accelerator, which Dr Baruah said is available at only 50 hospitals all over India. Besides, specialist doctors like Dr Hemant Roy, Chief of Surgical Dept, Apollo Hospital, Chennai has offered to make visits to the institute as a guest doctor at particular intervals throughout the year.> > Dr Baruah also said that the institute has facilitated a free treatment cell for cancer patients below the poverty line. He said that two patients will be treated every month totally free of cost.
