GUWAHATI, Aug 21 – As a tribute to the architect of modern Assam, RG Baruah, and to nurture potential talents in the State to shape the dream of the stalwart, a mega educational event – soon to be an annual affair – is going to be launched this year. The RG Baruah Jewel Award competition, organised by MASSLINK and supported by The Assam Tribune, will be open to the student community from class V to class IX, and the maiden venture will be confined to greater Guwahati. 

The organisers informed that next editions of the event would be held at State level so as to give an opportunity to each meritorious student, irrespective of their background, to participate and imbibe the spirit of competitiveness.

According to the organisers, the event has been conceptualised with the aim to lay a strong foundation for the student community and with the help and guidance of professionals and retired teachers. 

In each class, 20 students will be awarded with Jewel, Diamond, Gold and Special scholarships. The Jewel scholarship will carry Rs 10,000 in cash, the Diamond scholarship will carry Rs 7,500, the Gold scholarship will carry Rs 5,000 and the Special scholarship will carry Rs 1,000. There will be 17 Special scholarships in each class.

The contribution of the school authorities and the guardians in shaping the destiny of the young people and enriching the field of education will also be recognised through cash rewards to the principals and guardians of Jewel, Diamond and Gold award winners amounting to Rs 10,000, Rs 7,500 and Rs 5,000 respectively.

Over and above, specially qualified institutions graded as Model Jewel School, Model Diamond School and Model Gold School will be accorded cash awards of Rs 10,000, Rs 7,500 and Rs 5,000 respectively.

The last date for submission of form for the competition is September 10. The scholarship exams will be held in October.
