Hi All,

Once again, I would like to extend a very warm greeting to everyone on behalf of ABC-Forum and would like to take this opportunity to provide an update of all the initiatives undertaken by ABC-Forum this year. As mentioned in one of our earlier email communications, ABC-Forum is primarily focusing on 4 initiatives/ projects –

1.      "RODALI - Moina Mel"

Rodali, i.e. Moina Mel has been one of the new initiatives that was conceptualized and put into action by ABC-Forum this year.

"Objective":  The Primary objective is to initiate a forum and learning platform similar to "Moina Parijat" in Axom, for the young children of our community residing here in Bangalore whereupon they can gain exposure and knowledge about our various Assamese traditions, culture, literature through fun-filled activities and interactive games like story-reading sessions, Bihu and Other Dance/Song recitals, Tekeli-Bhonga , etc.

"Milestones and Way Forward":

-  We have been able to organize around  5  Moina Mels so far and the response and participation has been very encouraging and has inspired us to continue with our efforts.  The last Moina Mel commenced on 31st  August,i.e. yesterday
-                      We have been trying to organize the Moina Mels in different localities like Apartment Complexes and Community Halls in and around Bangalore in order to encourage and facilitate maximum participation and involvement from our community people, at least from that particular Apartment complex and nearby areas. And the prompt support, help and active participation from people like Hiranya da, Gauranga da and Arman da at the SJR Apartment Complex    and Bikash da for Meera Party Hall is highly commendable and praiseworthy and we thank them wholeheartedly for that.

We again continuously look forward to your active participation/ contribution and invaluable suggestions/ feedback on how we can add greater value to these Moina Mel sessions in terms of attracting a larger number of participants, conducting new and innovative learning activities, etc.

2.      "XATIRTHO – A Training, Placement and Career Counseling (TPCC) initiative"

"Objective":  The Training and Placement assistance initiative that was started on 24th Aug, 2008(Sunday) is a continuation of the Training sessions/workshops that has been conducted for the past 3-4 years by ABC-Forum to provide training, counseling and guidance to the students and recent graduates who have come to Bangalore in search of jobs and opportunities, to provide them a platform wherein they can enhance their overall aptitude, technical and communication/ presentation skills and thereby succeed in their first venture of their professional career, i.e., to get placement in one of the Software/IT companies here in Bangalore or elsewhere in India.

"Synopsis":   The first of these sessions was kick-started last Sunday (24th Aug) at 3.30 pm with 37 young trainees encompassing a wide range of BE/MCA and other fresh graduates attending a 2 and half hour session that included a talk on Resume Building skills, a Basic initial test to gauge the preparedness of the trainees for interviews, general tips on how to prepare for written tests and interviews, etc.

The inaugural welcome speech was given by "Yugantar (Saikia) Da, Director (Operations) , FairIsaac Corporation", where he presented a brief introduction of the initiatives of ABC-Forum and the team behind, focusing primarily on

- what we are trying to achieve through these initiatives.

- how we are planning to achieve our objectives for the same.

- what constraints and hurdles we are facing.

- how everyone can contribute and collaborate in our initiatives.

He outlined the primary objectives of the Training, Placement and Career Counseling sessions and emphasized on making this program successful though a combination of hard work, dedication and focused effort from both the trainers as well as the trainees.

A well-prepared resume is one of the key factors in getting selected for any job interviews. Hence, we had "Pronob (Chetia) Da, HR Manager of Volvo India", delivering a talk on Resume Building Skills where he deliberated on the finer points of preparing a good resume.

"New Approach – Mentoring":      Apart from the regular sessions to be conducted by specific trainers/specialist s from the industry for a specific topic, this time a new approach has been introduced to provide continuous guidance and support to the trainees.

Each of the participating trainees have been assigned to a "Mentor", who will be responsible for constantly providing guidance, counseling and support to the trainees throughout the training process till he or she is able to get placement. The entire group of trainees have been divided into smaller teams of 4-5 persons and assigned to a Mentor from amongst the ABC-Forum members.

"Review Mechanism":       This Mentoring model will also include "check-points" to validate progress made by the trainees as well as the Mentors, i.e. it will provide a mechanism to supervise the effectiveness of the mentors also.

3.      "XONGJOG - Initiative to create and consolidate a common database/repository of all the people from Assam or who have roots in Assam, residing here in Bangalore"

"Objective":  We have initiated this project to develop a networking framework/back- bone of all our activities, a framework that will create a common connection or bond for all the people from Assam now residing here in Bangalore. This project will help ABC-forum to reach out to each and every one of you, which in turn will facilitate interaction and communication amongst all our people for any activities or requirement.

To successfully develop and build this database, we would need your help, support and co-operation not only in terms of funds but your personal involvement. The technical details of this Database project are yet to be finalized.

4.     "Initiative to provide training and career counseling to all those Assamese youths working as Security personnel in various organizations"

We have been discussing about the feasibility of implementing such a scheme whereupon we can provide training, guidance and counseling to these youths in computers and other vocations, which will facilitate growth in their current role as well enhance their future prospects to pursue other career opportunities.

For this, we are still in the process of exploring the feasibility of the project right now and will update you all once we are able to reach some concrete step to help us proceed.

So, Friends, these were some of the recent updates of our initiatives we wanted to share with you all. As you all must be aware, in successfully conducting our initiatives like Moina Mel and Training Sessions we have been facing quite a few constraints/ hurdles in terms of finding a permanent space/location for these activities, shortage of funds and financial assistance, lack of enough resources and logistics, etc that tend to hinder the smooth and efficient functioning of each of these sessions.

However, we are grateful and immensely thankful to people like "Khanindra (Barman) Da" who has time and again provided us with the requisite infrastructure and space in his restaurant "The Village". On the same note, we would also like to appeal to every one of you with the humble request to contribute in whatever way you can in making our initiatives and projects successful and effective.

Warm Regards,
Rajdeep
