[Assam] Demand for Action etc.

Hello Uttam,
If you get a chance, please read the book, "Shameful Flight" that describes the events leading to the shameful flight of the British from the Indian sub-continent. The book vividly shows how independence of India shaped up amidst the bickering between Indian National Congress and Muslim League, how creation of Pakistan was viewed as a solution to the communal problem in the sub-continent.
Did it solve the problems sustainably or did it create new ones right after partition?
The book describes how the British citizens were removed before declaring independence in 1947 and how the British let the Indians and Pakistanis fight it out.
The only way India, Pakistan and Bangladesh can coexist and prosper is by erasing the artificial lines drawn by the British and forming a federation, opening the borders for easy movement of people and goods. Bangladeshi laborers are migrating and supporting the Indian economy anyway. A federation will make it legal. Kashmir problem will go away when the LOC is erased between Indian Kashmir and Pakistani Kashmir.
How about Assam? I leave that to your fertile imagination. What do you think? Will a federation (though improbable) work?
Dilipda

I agree with the view that there cannot be a permanent solution in absolute terms. But Dilip da, you got to accept that on 15 August 1947 there was transfer of power and it solved some outstanding problems while producing new ones. There got to be trade-off. May be Chandan Da let his guards down for a fraction of time and Dilip Da went for the jugular (only figuratively:-)).

I agree with this one - "In that, these displays of internet bleeding  are little  more than self-serving, useless and ultimately insincere grandstanding that will result in nothing. All it affirms is the unchanging Indian nature of
believing in the make-believe as an acceptable substitute for the real thing."
A petition produces results when the petition gets a hearing. How many petitions are followed up by the pettioners?

I do not agree with this one - "It is unlikely that this group of people are intellectually unable to grasp what it would take to put an end to these episodes of mindless violence. Therefore one would have to conclude it is an unwillingness to stand up and be counted in support of a real and permanent solution."
Is there a real and permanent solution? Rather, are there? The world is too complicated for permanent solutions.
What, in your assessment, is a real and permanent solution?
Assuming you are hinting at sovereignty for Kashmir and Assam as a real and permanent solution to the mindless violence, I disagree because that will only bring another set of problems and other forms of violence.

I have been paying attention to the heartfelt calls for action against terrorism etc. as well as the expression of routine Oxomiya angst about no one paying attention to their hurts.

While it is commendable to see our fellow men's noble expressions of solidarity with the victims of a given day, what jumps out  by its absence is ANY desire to raise a SINGLE word about how to put an end to these routine and increasingly violent eruptions of death and destruction that have become more and more frequent over the years.

It is unlikely that this group of people are intellectually unable to grasp what it would take to put an end to these episodes of mindless violence. Therefore one would have to conclude it is an unwillingness to stand up and be counted in support of a real and permanent solution.

In that, these displays of internet bleeding  are little  more than self-serving, useless and ultimately insincere grandstanding that will result in nothing. All it affirms is the unchanging Indian nature of
believing in the make-believe as an acceptable substitute for the real thing.
