Call for repair of Dhemaji district roads before Sabha session
Correspondent
SILAPATHAR, Nov 30 – Seeking improvement of the pathetic road condition, the general public of Dhemaji district have demanded the concerned authorities as well as Border Roads Organisation (BRO) for taking prompt action on the matter prior to the forthcoming session of the Asam Sahitya Sabha.
Several organisations of the district have taken up agitational programmes against the BRO and demanded construction of double-lane roads in the district. Responding to the demands of the public and other organisations, the authorities of Border Roads Organisation assured the public that double-laning construction works would be completed within December next.
It is seen that construction works on NH 52 in regard to widening under Dhemaji district have yet to be started in certain parts of the district. Moreover, several RCC bridges constructed by the BRO are still in an incomplete state. So, vehicles are running along the subsays of NH 52 from Silapathar (Akajan) to Jonai.
The most vaunted project of Jonai LAC, Simen bridge is in a preliminary condition. So, two wheelers, three wheelers, buses, trucks etc have been compelled to use the NF Railway bridge to cross the river due to non-completion of the bridge on NH-52 for double-laning has yet to get momentum in that portion.
The general public claim that incomplete works on NH-52 has contributed to frequent accidents in the district. Moreover, the slow progress of construction works may lead to traffic problems in February during the Asam Sahitya Sabha session.
Donation to Sabha: The teachers-employees’ organisations of Dhemaji district schools have resolved to donate two days’ salary for the forthcoming Dhemaji Session- 2009 of Asam Sahitya Sabha.
The meeting under reference was presided over by Photik Doley, Inspector of Schools, Dhemaji.
