Dear
Friends,
"The North East MPs Forum (NEMPSF) delegation today included Dr Arun Kumar Sarma, Sarbananda Sonowal, Biren Baishya, Kumar Deepak Das, Tapir Gaon, Khiren Rijiju and Agatha Sangma besides Sangma."
No MPs from Tripura and Mizoram was included in this team. Possibly so they didn't utter a word about Silchar-Lumding,Lumding-Agartala BG line. But, was it not a duty of Assam MPs who were with the delegation to include this demand also? Friends, You see, I'm from Silchar. My parents live their. All my colleagues visit their home in any vacation . I can't . Do you know why? Because of that bad communication system. I can't make any easy journey from Tinsukia to Silchar with my family. It takes almost 24 hour by both rail or road way. But by road the journey cost double. And my wife and girl child can't tolerate continuous journey by road. So, whenever I make journey by road I have to stay at Guwahati Hotel for at least 12 hour.
After a year and half I had planned go to Silchar in this mid -December by train. But the Bomb Blast in Diphu station in the first week of December made the journey risky enough. Not only me that got afraid. The railway it self stopped to run its night train. A single train runs at day in which there is no surety that we can get ant sit even after having a valid ticket. So, I had to tell my ageing waiting parents that, I'm not coming for another six month or so. My next plan will depends on availability of leave for me and my child at same period. And that's a tough calculation.
Sushanta

NE MPs demand Stilwell Road reopening
Spl correspondent
NEW DELHI, Dec 17 – The North East MPs Forum (NEMPSF) today reiterated the plea for reopening of the Stilwell Road. A delegation of the Forum today called on the Prime Minister to discuss various issues pertaining to the Region. The MPs demanded that the Centre should not adopt the BOT mode for the Four-lane Nagaon-Dibrugarh Highway.
The Prime Minister reportedly agreed that the Centre has to adopt the traditional mode, as BOT may not be the best available option.
Meanwhile, the MPs also pressed for upgradation of National Highway 37 to a four-lane highway from Kaliabor Tinali to Numaligarh. The Government of India has decided to revise the declared plan for construction of 4 lane highway along the existing alignment of NH-37, which passes through the South Bank of Kaziranga National Park.
The delegation of the MPs led by PA Sangma called on the Prime Minister to primarily press for nomination of Phirang Roy as India’s candidate for election to the post of President of International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The last date of nomination is December 20.
The request for Phirang’s nomination has been pending for long. He is former assistant president of IFAD and the only tribal to reach the status in the UN system.
The MPs also used the opportunity to lobby for appointment of Dr Ramesh Deka as the director of AIIMS. He was shortlisted for the top job but the Centre is yet to take a final decision.
The delegation today included Dr Arun Kumar Sarma, Sarbananda Sonowal, Biren Baishya, Kumar Deepak Das, Tapir Gaon, Khiren Rijiju and Agatha Sangma besides Sangma.
