Awareness Campaign on Animal Welfare: Humane Dog and Rabies Management
Guwahati 28th December 2008: JBF(INDIA) - professionally managed pioneer organization of India, organized daylong awareness program on animal welfare on its foundation day of Animal Relief Centre at Guwahati, at the centre located at 4, Chandan Nagar, Survey, Beltola, Guwahati, Assam. The thematic awareness program was one of the parts of the weeklong animal welfare activities of the organization.
The participants from different walks life including academicians, veterinary scholars, social workers, animal welfare activists shared their views on animal welfare activities especially in Guwahati at present context. The discussion was initiated by a lead presentation by Dr. Smriti R, Dutta, ex-consultant, National Institute of Animal Welfare, Ballavgarh, Haryana which highlighted issues, initiatives of different organizations and new innovation in animal welfare activities.
The participants opined that there is lack of appropriate awareness and sensitization amongst the general mass and appropriate strategy is to be adopted for this. The participants also expressed serious concern that participation of veterinarians in animal welfare activities are very poor whereas vets can play key pivotal role in animal welfare activities and lead the general mass towards appropriate direction for sustainable animal welfare activities.
The workshop resolved that JBF(INDIA) should build up a project on “Humane dog and Rabies Management” with participation of all other stakeholders and approach appropriate authority for implementation. The workshop expressed confidence that JBF(INDIA) can lead on such initiatives and address the emerging issue of animal welfare for the benefit of the society at large.
