> > Is it ethical for the government to provide quick monetary compensation for human life to silence the family members so that accountability and liability issues are not raised? The writer below seems to accept the practice though he does not like it. Do most Indians feel the same way?> Dilip Deka

Ethical? -- HARDLY. IT IS hushMONEY. And it is Peoples' -not Govt's. If People had been United in Condemning squandering their meagre resources by a group who were voted only as MLAs/MPs (They are supposed to Legislate!)-- India would have been a SuperPower in 1980.
Indians??- They never protest payments. They demand" More-More"!And Their Opposition Legislators shout for MORE

>--------------------------------- > Life, values etc..> Sir, – It is more often seen that government at once announces compensation for victims of any incident. But doing this they try to get rid of their responsibility. What we see today is a materialistic picture of life where loss of life can be compensated through money. These are the values of 21st century and we have to accept it. A section of people may oppose such deals. But, is it a fault on the part of government to treat people in such an inhuman manner ? Of course not. In the age of science and technology we are living a sophisticated life. We have become a part of this era where now and then we try to fulfil our own interest. We are responsible for projecting such materialistic values in society. Interestingly Machiavelli once predicted this philosophy of human life in 15th century in The Prince where he said, ‘One can forget his father’s death but not of his property.’ That’s why we just cannot blame only the government for this. As> the government represents us, it carries the same values that we possess. –Yours etc., MAX CHETIA, Doom Dooma> _______________________________________________> assam mailing list> assam at assamnet.org> http://assamnet.org/mailman/listinfo/assam_assamnet.org
