SEZ on Last Legs; Nehru’s Dream to Manmohan Singh’s Loot 

Unwinding of SEZ Loot program has begun and Goa is taking the lead in this. GOI has finally agreed to de-notify GOA SEZs.

I was first to respond to SEZ menace or loot program of Manmohan Singh. Since V.P. Singh, Raj Babbar, Mamta and more took control of the program I job was over. 

SEZ was basically a Congress Loot Program led by Capt. Amrinder Singh but Bhupendra Hooda and Vilasrao Deshmukh championed the loot program of Manmohan Singh by offering 2,000 hectares, 24,000 hectares and 10,000 hectares to Mukesh Ambani of prime land in Metropolitan zones. Capt Amrinder Singh even who was first to implement the loot program offered about 20 hectares (20000 acres in all) in the middle of Mohali town for what? – Farm produces packaging. 

It is no secret Manmohan Singh the mediocre who had no idea how to run the country was meeting & consulting Mukesh Ambani who to me ought to have been sentenced to 1000 years in jail had it been American Law for his criminal activities. Mediocre always enjoy the company of mediocre. 

Except Narindra Modi of BJP who offered barren land for SEZ far away from main cities for big SEZ was prominent among non congress governments. His political instinct and incompetence of the rival congress ensured his victory in recent elections. In West Bengal Singur was only 400 hectares just 1% of land grabbed by Mukesh Ambani in Mumbai and NCT of Delhi. 

We are proud of farmers in Singur and Nandigram who didn’t relent, waged relentless war against the powerful government that has not lost over 10 elections in the past for close to three decades. 

Nehru was million times better and democrat with genuine dream to make India great and technologically advanced compared to Manmohan Singh. British were like Manmohan Singh promoted industries very close to cities or just within cities, Mumbai and Delhi had prominent industries within cities but he did his best to locate industries all over India. Most of the industries that required big chunks of land were located 50km to 100 kilometers away from main cities. 

Jabalpur had Defense production unit, Allahabad antibiotic unit, HEC in Ranchi, Ganaur BST, Khapoli ZST, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Pune, HAL, Bhilai and Petroleum Refinery in Bihar and so on. 

Bhakra dam in Punjab, Fertilizer factory at Nangal and so many big dams around India were all part of his vision to grand vision. He heavily taxes luxury products like cars to finance his vision but was let down by Moneylenders turned Industrialists who didn’t want to discard Dhoti or Langoti and work in the factories but only wanted profits from them. 

He was let down by incompetence and lack of resources people like MS Swaminathan who continued to buy imported wheat than good seeds. Similarly men in charge of S&T like present Chidambaram or Kirit Parikh always fooled him with false promises. 

It was people like MS Swaminathan who convinced Nehru to release 18,500 cusecs of water in desert with promise to produce enough food and fodder for desert state of Rajasthan thus Rajasthan Canal was laid in the heart of desert. Even after 50 years not even 5% of Rajasthan’s food is produced in its command. 

The IITs he built were not serving Indian economy primarily because Banks were in private hands dhoti and langoti wearing traders turned industrialists had complete control of the finances. GOI to fund its programs imposed heavy taxes on rich. Eventually it was Indira Gandhi who nationalized private banks. 

So long dhoti and langoti wearing corporate were in charge and there was no competition they didn’t invest in even new design of bumpers or head light of Ambassador cars.

Present generation of corporate are trained in USA and England but majority of them are mediocre and learn nothing.

All Multinational Corporations are managed by top professionals not by poor caliber owners.

SEZ row: Kamat to seek Centre’s nod today

In a move that is set to put a question mark on the ruling Congress’ commitment to Special Economic Zones (SEZs), Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat is likely to fly over to New Delhi on Thursday to get the Centre’s approval for the state Government’s decision to scrap the SEZs in the state. Three SEZs which were notified earlier will, however, be allowed to go ahead, said Congress sources. 

In all, 15 SEZ applications had been received by the state government, out of which seven were approved and three were notified. The state Government wants the SEZs to be put on hold, party sources said. The three SEZs — Cipla’s Meditab Specialities, Peninsula Pharma Research Centre and K Raheja Corp — have already acquired land. Union Commerce Secretary GK Pillai said investment exceeding Rs 500 crore has already been made only by Meditab in its SEZ. 

The Goa Government had, on December 31, announced scrapping of all the SEZs following protests. The Centre on Wednesday said that state Governments cannot scrap notified SEZs although they could seek cancellation of those in the pipeline. 

“Duty-free equipment has also started coming in... how will the state Government compensate the developers,” Pillai said. Developers may even approach the court against the decision of the Goa Government, he said. “As for those which have only been approved but not notified, we can honour sentiments of the state Government.” 

There have been protests against SEZs in several states, including West Bengal, Maharashtra and Haryana, but Goa is the first Congress-ruled state to have gone back on the SEZ policy. “We will discuss the issue with the Centre before taking any decision,” said AICC General Secretary in charge of Goa BK Hari Prasad.
