MLA was allegedly distributing cash, blankets among voters

GUWAHATI, Jan 8: Gauripur MLA Mohibul Haque, an associate member of the ruling Congress, and one Sahidur Rahman were critically injured in a pre-panchayat poll violence in Dhubri district late last night. Haque and Rahman have been shifted to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH). 
According to allegations, Haque was attacked by an opponent mob when he, along with some party candidates, made an attempt to campaign by distributing money and blankets in Naidar village near Gauripur last night even though the campaign officially concluded at 4 pm yesterday. Sahidur Rahman sustained bullet injury when Haque’s PSO Moon Ali opened fire to disperse the mob.
The MLA was attacked with sharp weapons. Three vehicles — the Scorpio of the MLA and two Tata Sumos of the police — and four motorcycles were damaged by the attackers. No arrest has been made so far, and the police has intensified its vigil in the area. 
Meanwhile, MLA Haque has been shifted to the Down Town Hospital later.
