[Assam] A Tribute to Late Arun Hazarika by Pani Ram Das.

  Here the words from Sri Pani Ram Das at the age of 92 on the sad demise of Arun Hazarika- his most old friend:-
   
  A tribute to Arun Hazarika
   
   
  Just now I come to know from my son Jayanta that Arun Hazarika is no more in the mortal world and has left for the infinite. Instantly my mind rushed to the golden youthful days of 1946,when we often used to sit together in the jolly company of jubilant and energetic stars of the progressive society og Guwahati of that time at the Khadi shop ( Amalay ) at Panbazar.All of them were tall pillars like Deba Kanta Barooah,PrincipalHemBarua,HareswarGoswami,Biwa Goswami,Uttam Tahbildar,SubodhHazarika,ArunHazarika,Lakhyadhar Chowdhuri, sometimes Biren Bhattacharjya and others.We also sometimes sat in the residence of Deba Kanta Barooah at Jorpukhuri.
   
  At that time muslim immigrants at the instance of the Muslim League forcibly occupied the swhole of Mangaldai chapari and created terror in the whole sub-division. In the phase of such a serious ituation,we organized a public meeting of 25 thousand strength at Punia on 25th September to resist the invader which was attended by Deba Kanta Baruah and Arun Hazarika on our invitation. Both of them delivered inspiring speeches calling whole the terrified audience not to loose heart but to resist boldly.There speech highly inspired the fear stricken people which enabled them to organized the historic Borbori defence campus with 500 courageous youth which lasted for four months from November to February 1947,when at late they were cowed down. During the struggle, we met varieties of arrangements of arms to combat miscreants,such as hand made guns,javelin lathis etc.Rohini Kumar Choudhuri them MP supplied 1000 javelin,Subodh Hazarika with Barin Ghosh of Calcutta personally
 visited the camp and gave 6 pistols and Biharis from Bhuragaon ( Nowgong )were ready with lathis for any eventualities>More over from our side we kept several hand made guns ready for the occasion. Fearing  all about this,Deba Kanta Barooah and Hem Barua and all other requested me to take a hand made gun to Guwahati for demonstration. Accordingly, I took Manipad Bania and Ramani Bania, both expert in gun making to Guwahati for demonstration of the art. All of the Guwahatians gathered at the residence of Deba Kanta Barooah to enjoy the successful shooting at a banana plant which was uprooted in a moment, so powerful was the gun.It is worth mention that the beautiful would be wife Anu of the famous orator Hem Barua was also present at the shooting site 
   
  It is not at all possible for me to forget that noble graph of patriots who have all now left us-  Arun Hazarika being the last to depart and leaving me lament alone. I pay my deepest regard to Arun Hazarika.
