GU diamond jubilee to begin on Jan 26

 GUWAHATI, Jan 22 – With the completion of sixty years of glorious existence, the Gauhati University is going to celebrate its diamond jubilee with a year-long programme beginning from January 26. As a part of celebration, the University has planned a series of academic activities both in the university campus and also in its affiliated colleges. Series of publication have also been planned to commemorate the glorious history of the university.

The year-long programme will be inaugurated celebrating the diamond jubilee year foundation day of the university.

Shobha Brahma, a renowned artist and a matriculate of the first batch of the university will be the chief guest of the function in the university campus, a press release stated.

Three vice-chancellors including Professor Kulendu Pathak, Prof Mihir Kumar Choudhury and Prof Srinath Baruah of Dibrugarh University, Tezpur University and KK Handique State Open University respectively besides Prof Gautam Barua, director, Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati and Dr Bhupati Das, managing director of NRL, have consented to attend the function.

As a part of the celebration, department of Linguistics, GU has already organised the 3rd International Conference of the North East Indian Linguistic Society beginning from January 20.

The GU will also organise one national seminar and a workshop in collaboration with the department of Political Science and the department of English Language Teaching of the University respectively, who are celebrating their golden jubilee this year.

The seminar is being organised in collaboration with Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla on the issue ‘ Diversity in North East Indian’.

Apart from the academic activities, a few commemorative and diamond jubilee gates and also a bust of the founder Vice Chancellor KK Handique will be installed in the university.
