[Assam] Breakage at the Subansiri Dam

Yes, there is a devastating flash flood in Lakhimpur, but not due to
Subansiri coffer dam. It is due to overflow of Ranganadi dam a large area
stretching from Bihpuria to Lakhimpur is affected. We are unable to be in
touch with our family members there. As per last report yesterday, 90% of
Lakhimpur is submerged under water.

These dams built in great haste will cause more tragic disasters later. In
an area where earthquakes in excess of 8.7 richter strike in regular
periodicity, big dams should be banned. Assamese people have to seriously
consider about asserting their downstream riparian rights, now.
